Five races are granted Listed status by the European Pattern Races Committee for 2013

The European Pattern Races Committee has granted the status of Listed races to 5 races in the Spanish calendar: the GP Ciudad de Madrid, the GP Gobierno Vasco, the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián, the GP de la Hispanidad and the Memorial Duque de Toledo. The Premio Claudio Carudel will be evaluated for its inclusion from 2014 pending the rating of its participants this year.

The details about these races are:

GP Ciudad de Madrid (2,500 m, 3yo+, end of June, La Zarzuela racetrack, Madrid). Karluv Most won the 2012 running

GP Gobierno Vasco (1,600 m, 3yo+, summer, Lasarte racecourse, San Sebastián). Cielo Canarias won the last one.

Copa de Oro de San Sebastián (2,400 m, 3yo+, Lasarte racecourse, San Sebastián). Won by Pazifiksturm in 2012

GP de la Hispanidad (1,600 m, 3yo+, October 12th, La Zarzuela racecourse, Madrid). The 2012 edition was won by Cielo Canarias

GP Memorial Duque de Toledo (2,400 m, 3yo+, Autumn, La Zarzuela racecourse, Madrid). Last edition was won by Casaca

Six Spanish races could become Listed races in 2013

The IFHA has promoted six Spanish races to the Listed status in its Conference held October 8th. The Closing remarks document states:

"Six races from Spain were promoted to Part II subject to review of their 2012 ratings. "

The six races are:

GP Claudio Carudel (spring season, La Zarzuela, Madrid), a 1,600 m race for 3yo+, weight for age The winner this year was Matusalén
Other recent winners were Volcánico, Silverside, Lorgan, Yepes, Trueno Negro

GP Ciudad de Madrid (spring season, La Zarzuela, Madrid), a 2,500 m race for 3yo+, weight for age
Last edition: GP Ciudad de Madrid 2011
Recent winners: Karluv Most (2012), Entre Copas (2011), Karluv Most (2010), Bannaby (2009)


GP Gobierno Vasco (summer season, Lasarte, San Sebastián), 1,600 m, 3yo+ weight for age. The winner this year was Cielo Canarias and other recent winners were Volcánico, Aranel

Copa de Oro de San Sebastián (summer season, Lasarte, San Sebastián), 2,400 m, 3yo+, weight for age. Last edition (the winner was Pazifiksturm): Copa de Oro de San Sebastián 2011
Other recent winners were: Jo All the Way (2011), Bannaby (2010), Young Tiger

GP Hispanidad (autumn season, La Zarzuela, Madrid), 1,600 m, 3yo+, weight for age. Last edition (Abdel won): GP Hispanidad 2011
Other recent winners have been Silverside, Shumookh, Solita, Trip to the Moon and Young Tiger

GP Memorial Duque de Toledo (autumn season, La Zarzuela, Madrid), 2,400 m, 3yo+, weight for age. Last edition (Ayanz): GP Memorial Duque de Toledo 2011
Amont the previous winners are Karluv Most, Young Tiger, Jade, Blue Ridge View


The final decision will be made next January.

Pazifiksturm wins the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián

Pazifiksturm (GER, 2007), [Samum-La Parabol(Trempolino)], owned by Cuadra Martul, trained by Ana Imaz and ridden by J. B, Hamel, won yesterday the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián (2,400 m, 3yo+, wight for age, 40,000 euros for the winner) in the Lasarte racetrack. Phuket (SPA, 2009) [Multazem-New Vert(Vert Amande)] was 2nd, Australia Day was third and the Spanish Derby winner Fortun was 4th.

Australia Day commanded the race in the first part, but Pazifiksturm took the lead before the final stretch, to keep it relatively easy, winnin by a margin of 3 1/2 lengths over late charging Phuket.

Pazifiksturm is having an outstanding year, winning the Mijas Cup 2012  in March and the Prix Sa Majesté le Roi VI in Morocco  in June. He was second to Bannaby in the 2012 edition of the Copa de Oro. Pazifiksturm is a classic winner of the Premio Villamejor (St. Leger) in 2010.
