Caseda (IRE) wins the Premio Memorial Javier Piñar Hafner

Caseda (IRE, 2008), a bay filly [Celtic Swing-Lina Story(Linamix)], trained by M. Augelli and ridden by V. Janacek, beat Opus (SPA) [British Open] to win the Premio Memorial Javier Piñar Hafner, in Dos Hermanas (Seville) in Jan 30th. Caseda is owned by Cuadra Roncesvalles. This was her fifth start and her first win. In her previous run, she was defeated by Opus over a 1,800 m distance. Suddenside was third and Fabiello, fourth.

Spanish connections in the Arqana Mixed Sale

Official ratings (V): Narya (IRE)

Narya (IRE, 2007) a bay filly by Halling-Badran (Danzig) is the second highest rated 3 y/o filly in Spain in 2010. Owned by Cuadra Miranda and trained by M. Narya is a full sister to Eastern Aria, winner of the Park Hill Stakes in 2010.

Impressive Kuruchet (ARG) in the Gran Premio Cruzcampo

Kuruchet (ARG, 2007) Beat Hollow-Karlaska (Lashkari), the bay colt owned by Cuadra San Acacio and trained by J. calderón won today the Gran Premio Cruzcampo. Ridden by J. E. Jarcokvsky, he took command just before the home stretch and pulled away, winning by a comfortable margin. Rayen (SPA) was second, with Blackberry Boy

Gran Premio Cruzcampo

Six runners (after Smartside (USA) was scratched) will try to win the Gran Premio Cruzcampo (2,200 m, 4 y/o+), the main race in the Dos Hermanas meeting in January 23th.

The other race relevant to this Gran Premio is the 2,800 m race won by Duke (now absent) two weeks ago over Domeside (USA) and Rayen (SPA), two of the partants this Sunday.

Official ratings: (IV) Clunia (IRE)

Clunia (IRE, 2008) a chestnut filly by Silent Times-Doohulla (Stravinsky) is the highest rated two year old filly of 2010 in Spain. She is Owned by Cuadra Brazacorta, Trained by G. Villarta and was bred by Dehesa Milagro. Her jockey is Borja Fayos.

She won her debut and next he won the Premio Tattersalls Martorell (body and sleeves in red with black hoop, red cap). After this win, she ran in France (Aug 1st, 2010) in the Criterium du Bequet (Listed race, La Teste de Buch) finishing 5th.

Back in Spain she won again in San Sebastian in the Criterium International (Aug 19th), beating Dunboinnee and El Incendio. Here is the race: Criterium Internacional

Her last win was in Madrid, in the Premio Carlos Sobrino (1,400 m, 2yo fillies) and then she was third in the Gran Criterium won by Volcánico

Delfos (IRE)

Delfos has begun well his career as a stallion. His first crop (2008) includes four runners in Spain with already two winners: Carlsson owned by DelaFuente Stud, won in his debut, then failed in the Copa de Criadores and then was second to Victory (SPA) in the Premio Veil Picard (1,800 m, 2 y/o). The filly Creyente (Delfos-Yafoul), was second in her debut and then won her next two starts, including the Premio Dehesa de Milagro, reserved for products sold at the Dehesa de Milagro sale. Afterwards, she was sold and won a claiming race in Longchamp in the "Arc weekend". Coming next to the rail in the stretch, jockey in blue, here is Creyente: Prix Racing Abroad, Longchamp, October 2nd, 2010.
She was then 2nd in the Prix de La Cité (Longchamp) and 6th in the Gr. 1 Criterium de Saint Cloud, won by Coolmore's Recital.

Both his non-winners, "Don Hernando Hab" and "El Pipa Hi" will run this Sunday in Dos Hermanas in a 1,800 m race.

Delfos (IRE, 2001) is a chestnut horse, son of the recently deceased Green Tune ex Akhla (Nahswan). Delfos ran at 3, 4 and 5, winning the Prix de la Force (Gr. 3), the Prix Prince d'Orange (Gr.3) and the Prix Harcourt (Gr. 2). Official ratings (III): Ercolini (IRE), Plantagenet (SPA), Pazifiksturm (GER)

The filly Ercolini (2007, IRE) (Pyrus-Bajan Belle) is the highest rated 3 year old of 2010 in the classification issued by the Spanish handicappers. Owned by Reza Pazooki and trained by Francisco Rodríguez, Ercolini won the Premio Atlántida and the Premio Valderas (Spanish 1,000 guineas) in La Zarzuela, Madrid in the spring. She also ran in France being second in the Prix Bagatelle (Listed race) and unplaced in the Gr. 3 Prix Leiurey in Deauville (in August).

At two (2009), Ercolini had been third in the Prix Miesque (France, Gr. 3) and won the Premio Carlos Sobrino (main race for 2 yo fillies in autumn).

Plantagenet (SPA, 2007) a chestnut colt by Trade Fair and Crafty Buzz, owned by Cuadra Plantagenet, trained by G. Arizcorreta and bred by Dehesa de Milagro is, along with Pazifiksturm (GER), the highest rated 3 year old colt in Spain. He has been always ridden by J.L. Borrego.

He won the Premio Nacional (2,200 m for Spanish breds) and the (Premio Villapadierna) Video in the spring. (Plantagenet's jockey: black body with red spots, black sleeves, red cap)

He refused to enter the starting gates in the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián (August 7th, 2,400 m 3yo+) in San Sebastián and in the fall, back in Madrid, although he ran well and won a prep race for the Memorial Duque de Toledo he finished a disappointing 7th in the Memorial (what we may call the Spanish "Arc", 2,400 m 3 y/o +). Whether he had a bad day or the hard pace tested his stamina remains to be seen in his next starts.


Pazifiksturm (GER, 2007) (Samum-La Parabol), a chestnut colt, owned by Cuadra Martul and trained by Ana Imaz, has had a proggressive campaign. He was fifth in the Spanish Derby, second to Bannaby in the Copa de Oro, then he won the Prix Soledad de Moratalla in France (Tarbes) and finally he won the Premio Villamejor (Spanish St. Leger, 2,800 m, 3 y/o). He was born in May and consequently may still show more progress.

Camuray (SPA) beats Sideside (SPA) in Dos Hermanas

Camuray (SPA, 2005, Slipstream King-Reina Blanca), owned and bred by Yeguada Cortiñal, and trained by Enrique León, who had already won this winter (see post here has beaten Sideside (SPA, 2005, Docksider-Marylou Whitney) in the 1,500 m race (Premio Cría Nacional) reserved for Spanish breds today in Dos Hermanas (Seville). Apart from the usual meeting in Dos Hermanas, this Sunday there were three races in Vilaseca. Carmanor (SPA, Slip Anchor-Menta), winner of the Gladiateur in La Zarzuela (see video here blue jacket with red sleeves and cap), owned and trained by the Duque de Alburquerque, has won the main (2,500 m) of the three races.

In France, Jordan Water (SPA, Baptize-Brevaya), half brother to Ilusionista (SPA), owned by Sayago, trained by G. Arizcorreta and bred by LAC International, won a claiming race in 2,400 m and is showing progress with age, just like his brother.

2011 fee for Diktat: 4,000 euros

Dehesa de Milagro has published the 2011 fee for Diktat, 4,000 euros (special live foal).

Diktat (GB) is a bay horse, by Warning-Arvola (Sadler's Wells). He won the Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup (Gr. 1) and the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr. 1).

Diktat is the sire of Dream Ahead (2008) (winner Prix Morny Gr.1 and Prix Middle Park Gr 1), of Rajeem (Falmouth Stakes, Gr.1) and other group winners

Although his first Spanish crop will be born in 2011, he already has had some runners in Spain, including Puntilla Bay (Premio Carlos Sobrino), Zenside (Premio Valderas - Spanish 1,000 guineas).

Official ratings (II): Volcánico (IRE)

After Irish Field (IRE, Dubawi-Turkana Girl), Gr. 2 winner in France, was sold to a Hong Kong owner, Volcánico (IRE) is the highest rated 2yo of 2010 still in training in Spain.

This colt, by Refuse to Bend and Zayana, owned by Cuadra Los Toneles and trained by F. Rodríguez, has a total of 5 starts in Spain, with two wins, two seconds and one third. He comes from an Aga Khan family, the same of Zarkava.

Tha main reason for giving him the highest rating was his impressive win in the Gran Criterium (Video) in October 17th, the most important race for 2 yo in the autumn in Madrid, 1,600 m. Volcánico's jockey wears a dark blue jacket with a yellow cap. Here, he defeated Clunia (IRE), the Silent Times filly who had won all the previous main races for 2 year olds in 2010.

Duke (GER) beats Domeside (GB)

Duke (bay gelding, GER, 2006) won the 2,800 m race in the Dos Hermanas racetrack (Seville) in a thrilling finish after a long fight in the stretch with Domeside (GB), over a heavy going. Ilusionista, as usual, led the way for most of the race but, just before entering the final straight, Domeside took command and looked as a winner, but couldn't resist the final attack of Duke. Rayen (SPA) was third.

Duke (second Set-Deborah) is owned by Cuadra Cholaica, trained by J.L. Maroto and was ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina. This is his second consecutive win.

Official ratings (I): Silverside

The official Spanish handicappers have published their listing corresponding to December 2010

The highest rated horse in Spain is Silverside (2006 USA), a miler, who won in 2010 both the main mile in spring in Madrid (GP Claudio Carudel) and the main mile in autumn also in Madrid (GP Hispanidad), finishing second to Shumookh in the GPOP Gobierno Vasco (San Sebastian, summer).

Silverside (USA, 2006, by Pleasantly Perfect and Lyrical Ghost) is a bay colt, owned by SafSaf and trained by M. Delcher S. His usual jockey is Julien Grosjean. He also won the Premio Cimera (Spanish 2,000 guineas) and has run in Turkey and the UAE. He will also run this year in Dubai.

2011 fee for Dyhim Diamond announced: 1,800 / 2,300 euros

The Haras de Ulzama (Auza, Navarra, Spain) has announced the 2011 fee for the stallion Dyhim Diamond. It will be 1,800 euros October 1st or 2,300 euros live foal (+ 18% VAT when applicable) (payable 48 hrs after the birth).

Dyhim Diamond is the sire of Gr.1 winners Turtle Bowl (Prix Jean Prat Gr1) and Bannaby (Prix Cadran Gr1) and of a good number of winners. His first Spanish crop are now 4 years old, including winners Orgi, Guerendiain, Suarbe, etc.




Dyhim Diamond (IRE), is a chestnut horse, born in 1994. By Night Shift ex Happy Landing (Homing), he won 4 out of 18 races from 2 to 5 years, including two Gr.3 races.

Premio Turismo de la Provincia de Sevilla, 2,800 m, Dos Hermanas, January 9th 2011

This race has an interesting field, including a Derby winner

Domeside (GB 2006), a bay colt, by Domedriver and Buck's Fizz, won the Premio Villapadierna (Spanish Derby) in 2009. Afterwards, he has been inactive until recently. His last race, he was third. Probably still not in his best shape

Mr. Rigsby (GB) wins the mile (Gran Premio Cajasol)

Favourite Mr. Rigsby (GB) with jockey Borja Fayos aboard, won the main race of the January 2nd 2001 meeting at Dos Hermanas, a mile. It is the 16th win for the gray gelding. Mr. Rigsby is trained by Blas Rama.
Atlántico (SPA) was second and Libia was third.

A mile to begin 2011

The racing year in Spain begins with a 1,600 m race as the main race for the January 2nd meeting.

Among the favourites, Mr. Rigsby (GB, 2003) a gray gelding by Forzando and Rain Splash, with a record of 52 races and 15 wins. His trainer is Blas Rama.
