There will be 5 races in Dos Hermanas in the last meeting of the year, day 31 of December 2011. The main race is a 1,600 m race for 3 yo+ (Premio Hipódromos de Andalucía), with 9,000 euros for the winner. There are 6 participants:

Volapie wins the Premio Cajasol

Volapié (SPA, 2007), bay geld. [Multazem-Bassaver(Bass)], owned by Cuadra Romana Alta, trained by M. J. Pérez and ridden by R. Huayas won the Premio Cajasol Banca Cívica (2,200 m, 9,000 euros) at the Dos Hermanas racetrack (Seville), beating Karluv Most (FR, 2006) (Della Francesca), with Jimmy Falabella (Mull of Kintyre) third, Lisselan Grace fourth and Kuruchet fifth and last in his return to racing. Cabo Cañaveral did not run.

Jimmy Falabella and Lisselan Grace commanded the race until the home stretch in which Volapie and Karluv Most fighted until the line, with Volapie winning by a half length. This is the second consecutive win for Volapié, who totals 65,000 euros in prize money. He aims at the Mijas Cup, next March in Mijas.

In the 1,500 m race for Spanish bred 2 yo fillies, the winner was Extrañeza (SPA, 2009) [Caradak-Watchkeeper(Rudimentary)], owned by cuadra St. Rio Quenquen, trained and ridden also by M. J. Pérez and R. Huayas, with Pompon Coeur (SPA, 2009) [Green Tune-Villa Sonata(Mozart)] second and Azafata (SPA, 2009) [Motivator-Anysheba(Alysheba)] third. Video: Premio Cría Nacional

More stallions: Denver County, Egeo, Newango, Ski Wells

There are three stallions property of Cuadra Madroños at the Yeguada El Palomar, Povedilla, Albacete, Spain.

Denver County (USA, 1992) , a bay horse [Mr. Prospector-Colorado Dancer(Shareef Dancer)], owned by Cuadra Madroños, will stand with a stud fee of 1,200 euros.
Denver County is a half brother to Dubai Millenium and is the sire of Group winners in Chile, including G1W Paso al Frente. In Spain, he is the sire of Atlántico, High Iker, Jakemate.

Egeo (FR, 1993) [Kris-Robertiya(Don Roberto)] is a chestnut horse, half brother to G1W Volvoreta (Suave Dancer). He was second in the Prix Greffulhe (Gr. 2) in France. He is the sire of Vergeo, Vegia, Verdana. His fee is 1,200 euros.

Newango (SPA, 2004) [Okawango (SPA) - New Vert(Vert Amande)] is a black horse, half brother to Festeiro (2008, Fol Parade), Listed placed in France and winner of the GP Nacional in Spain, with multiple placings in important races in Spain. Stud fee: 1,000 euros

Meanwhile, Ski Wells (GB, 1998) [Sadler's Wells-Jet Ski Lady(Vaguely Noble)]. will stand at Laredo, Cantabria, Spain, with a stud fee of 150 euros. His dam was winner of the Epsom Oaks and 2nd in the Yorkshire Oaks. Among his limited production, there are winners like Skiland

Karluv Most and Kuruchet

There will be 5 races in Dos Hermanas (Seville) this Saturday 24, with the main race being the Premio Cajasol, Banca Cívica, a 2,200 m race with six participants:

Volapié (SPA, 2007), bay geld. [Multazem-Bassaver(Bass)], owned by cuadra Romana Alta, trained by M. J. Pérez, will be ridden by R. Huayas. He won the Gran Premio Ciudad de Dos Hermanas (for Spanish breds) (video) one month ago and is aiming at the Mijas Cup.

Kuruchet (ARG, 2007), bay colt [Beat Hollow-Karlaska(Lashkari)], owned by Cuadra San Acacio, trained by J. Calderón, will be ridden by V. Janacek. Kuruchet did an outstanding season back in December 2010-January 2011 in this racecourse, including his win in the Gran Premio Cruzcampo, he was then injured in the Mijas Cup and sustained a different injury last summer.

Cabo Cañaveral (FR, 2005), bay col [Sendawar-Napeta(Woodman)], owned by Salvador Márquez, trained by J. López, will be ridden by J. Crocquevieille

Jimmy Falabella (IRE, 2005), bay geld. [Mull of Kintyre-Super Value(Polar Falcon)], owned by Los Aspirantes, trained by T. Callejo, will be ridden by J. C Cerqueira.

Karluv Most (FR, 2006), bay colt [Della Francesca-La Vltava(Grand Lodge)], owned by Cuara Cholaica, trained by J. L. Maroto, will be ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina. He was the best stayer in 2010, winning both the GP Ciudad de Madrid and the Memorial Duque de Toledo. However, he has not won in 2011.

Lisselan Grace (IRE, 2007), grey filly [Refuse to Bend-Questina(Sternkoenig)], owned by Lisselan Farms, trained by A. R. Acosta, will be ridden by S. Martín

Federal Trial stands at Almería

Federal Trial (USA, 1995) [Skip Trial-Royal Angelique(Diplomat Way)] owned by Yeguada Finca Cas Sant, will stand at Almería for the 2012 season, with a stud fee of 300 euros.

Federal trial won 7 out of 14 starts in the USA and Canada, including Hialeah Turf Cup Handicap (Gr. 2), the Canadian Turf H (Gr. 3), finishing second in the Manhattan Turf H (Gr.1) and third in the Man O'War Stakes (Gr. 1). He set a track record at Gulfstream Park with 1'39"08 for 1,1/16 miles (1,700 m), with a Speed Figure of 126.

Ariete Arrollador, Matusalén, Plantagenet, As de Trébol to run in Meydan

The Spanish representation in the Dubai Carnival 2012 will include:

As de Trébol (USA, 2006) [Tapit-Adelphi(Danzig)], who already ran in Meydan in 2011, being third in the Business Banking Handicap and also third in the Gr. 3 Emirates Burj Nahar, is owned by Cuadra Chicago and trained by M. Delcher S.

Also trained by M. Delcher is Matusalén (SPA, 2009) [Caradak-Bixaare(Xaar)], the top 2yo in Spain, unbeaten in 4 starts, including the Gran Criterium. He is owned by Cuadra Aller and comes from the first crop of Caradak. He was entered in the 2,000 m Criterium at Saint Cloud, but did not finally run.


There will be two horses trained by Guillermo Arizkorreta in the Dubai season:

Ariete Arrollador (GB, 2007) [Kingsalsa-Proud Douna] won the Premio Cimera (2,000 Guineas) at three and recently won the Listed Prix Luthier at Deauville. He is owned by Cuadra Albero.

Plantagenet (SPA, 2007) [Trade Fair-Crafty Buzz(Crafty Prospector)] won the Villapadierna (Spanish Derby). He is owned by Cuadra Whylar.

2012 Stud fees for the Antela (Ourense) stallions

The stallions standing at the Antela stud station (Ourense, Galicia, Spain) for 2012 will be: Fol Parade (2,500 euros), Delfos (1,500 euros), Fragrant Wells (1,000 euros), Wagon Master (1,000 euros) and Multazem (2,000 euros).

Fol Parade (ARG, 2002) [Parade Marshall-Sadler's Folie(Careafolie)] won the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián in 2005 (see an amateur video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9XA8r521Yo) and is the sire of Festeiro (winner of the Cimera and the GP Nacional and third in the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián) and also of Monte Napoleone (FR, 2009), recently placed in the Listed Criterium de Bourdeaux
The fee of Fol Parade will be 2,500 euros


Wagon Master (FR, 1990) [Rainbow Quest-Sunny Flower(Dom Racine)] won the Princess of Wales Stakes (Group 2) at 4 and was third in the King George 1994, with a total of 11 starts, 5 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds.

Among his Spanish runners, Doende is the top earner, totalling more than 100,000 euros in prize money.

Delfos (IRE, 2001), property of Dehesa de Milagro, will stand next year for the first time in Antela, with a fee of 1,500 euros. The chestnut stallion [Green Tune-Akhla(Nashwan)] is the sire of the winners Creyente, Carlsson, Delfoside, Don Hernando Hab, Milagres, Plata de Ley.

Delfos won the Prix du Prince d'Orange (Gr. 3) and the Prix La Force (Gr. 3) at three and the Prix d'Harcourt (Gr. 2) at 4 in France.

Multazem (USA, 2000) [Kingmambo-Spirit of Tara(Sadler's Wells)] was Listed placed at 3 and 5 and is half brother to Echo of Light. His best runners are Krilin, Volapié, Kayseri... He will stand for 2,000 euros.


Fragrant Wells (FR, 1999). [Sadler's Wells-Fragrant Hill(Shirley Heights)]. Owned by Yeguada Cortiñal, he stood in Spain in 2003 and 2004, in France 2005-2007 and back in Spain from 2008. Among his best performers are: Nadal, Revelation, Rubens, Osado, Schumacher. He will stand for 1,000 euros.

Camuray wins the sprint at Dos Hermanas

Camuray (SPA, 2005), black colt [Slipstream King-Reina Blanca(Highest Honor)], owned by Yeguada Cortiñal, trained by Enrique León and ridden by J. L. Martínez, won the main race of the Sunday meeting at Dos Hermanas (Seville), a 1,000 m claiming race, beating Sergei (IRE, 2008) [Gulch-Seasonal Style(Generous)], with Carioka (SPA, 2008)(grey filly) [Devil Moon-Lady Woo(Woodman)] third.

Dime que Sí (IRE, 2009) bay filly [Shirocco-Sculpted(Orpen)] won the 1,500 m race for maiden 2yo. She is owned by Cuadra Di Benischi and trained by Barbara Valenti and was ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina. She won by a length, with Esgues (SPA, 2009) ch. c. [Dyhim Diamond-Mar(Luth Dancer)] second and Indian Victory b. c. (SPA, 2009) [Sleeping Indian-Adventuress(Singspiel)]

Dehesa de Milagro stallion fees for 2012: Caradak 4,000 euros, Diktat 3,000 euros, Dyhim Diamond 3,000 euros

Dehesa de Milagro announced the 2012 fees for their three stallions:

Caradak (IRE, 2001) [Desert Style-Caraiyma(Shahrastani)] will stand for a fee of 4,000 euros, after an outstanding year for his first crop, with 4 winners out of 8 runners. His winners include the top 2yo Matusalén, unbeaten in four starts, including the Gran Criterium.

Diktat (GB, 1995) [Warning-Arvola(Sadle's Wells) will have a fee of 3,000 euros (down from 4,000 in 2011). The sire of Dream Ahead won the the Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup (Gr. 1) and the Prix Maurice de Gheest (Gr. 1).

Dyhim Diamond (IRE, 1994) [Night Shift-Happy Landing(Homing)] will stand for a fee of 3,000 euros. The sire of Gr. 1 winners and stallions Turtle Bowl and Bannaby has had a very good 2011, with Eltso as runner up in the Villapadierna and Abdel winner of the GP Hispanidad and second in the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián, apart from a good number of winners. He was moved from Ulzama this year

Delfos will stand at the Diputación de Orense and plans for Leadership have not been revealed.

Porquenotecallas wins in a muddy track at Mijas

Porquenotecallas (GB, 2006) the ch. colt [Fantastic Light-Ganga(Generous)] won today the Premio Germania Iberica Estates-Your Dream Home, beating Bottega (Mineshaft) by one and a half length, with Seminole Cry (War Chant) third over a muddy track in the Mijas racecourse.

Porquenotecallas shares owner-breeder (Cuadra África), trainer (J.M. Osorio) and jockey (J. Crocquevieille) with Casaca and Entre Copas, and this win adds up to the wonderful year of these connections.

Abdel and Volcánico to run in the Listed Prix Tantieme this Thursday 17th

Abdel (FR, 2008) [Dyhim Diamond-Leonor de Guzmán(Glauco)] a bay colt, bred, owned and trained by J.M.Osorio (Duque de Alburquerque) and Volcánico (IRE, 2008) [Refuse to Bend-Zayana(Darshaan)], a bay colt owned by Cuadra Los Toneles and trained by Francisco Rodríguez, are entered in the Prix Tantieme (Listed race 1,600 m, 3yo+, St. Cloud racecourse - France).

Abdel has won the most important mile race for 3yo+ in the Autumn season in Madrid, the P Hispanidad and also the Premio Antonio Blasco, after competing at a high level in 2,400 m races (second in the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián).

Volcánico won the Gran Premio Claudio Carudel last spring and also the Premio Gobierno Vasco (1,600 m, 3yo, weight for age, San Sebastián). He was the best 2yo of 2010 and has never run above 1,600 m.

Entre Copas wins the Gladiateur

One day after his half sister Casaca placed third in the Prix Fille de L'Air, Entre Copas (GB, 2004) won his sixth win in seven starts this year, winning the Premio Gladiateur (4,000 m, 4yo+). The ch. gelding by Sakhee and Priena(Priolo), owned and bred by Cuadra África, trained by J. M. Osorio and ridden by J. Crocquevieille, was the first by three quarters of a length, witj Domeside (GB, 2006) [Domedriver-Buck's Fizz], with Duke third and Karluv Most fourth, both far behind and Pazifiksturm last.

Duke was the front runner, along with his stable mate Karluv Most, for the first half of the race. In the second pass along the stretch, Pazifiksturm took the command, only to lose it in the last turn. After that, Entre Copas launched his attack, follwed by Domeside, and the race became a match race, with Entre Copas winning.

This is the third Gladiateur for Entre Copas, who was second to Carmanor last year.

In the race for 2yo debutants (premio Cadena Ser), the winner was Cascabel (SPA, 2009), a ch. filly [Dyhim Diamond-Channel(Sharp n'Early)], owned by Cuadra Pincal, trained by Angel Sánchez and ridden by M. Borrego, with Iune (USA, 2009) a bay filly [Proud Citizen-Jacira(Sillery)] second with jockey Jorge Horcajada for Cuadra Madroños and trainer M. Delcher. Here is the race: Premio Cadena Ser.

Jacira (dam of Iune) won the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián, had a yearling filly (by Arch) for sale at Arqana, sold in 65,000 euros. Jacira is also the dam of Royal Imari (Royal Academy), who won yesterday.

The Premio Veil Picard (1,800 m, 2yo) was won by Arsalan (GB, 2009) a bay colt [Halling-Kali(Linamix)], owned by Reza Pazooki, trained by F. Rodríguez and ridden by J. B. Hamel. Gran Chipi (Green Tune) was second and Giggolo Star (Dyhim Diamond) was third. Video: Premio Veil Picard 2011

This Sunday, Premio Gladiateur (4,000 m, 4yo+) and Premio Veil Picard (1,800 m 2yo) in Madrid

The Premio Gladiateur, as its homonymous in France, is a long distance race for 4 yo+. The field of five of thie year include three Classic winners: the Derby winner Domeside and the Villamejor (St Leger) winners Karluv Most and Pazifizturm.

Domeside (GB, 2006) [Domedriver-Buck's Fizz]. Owned by Cuadra Safsaf, trained by M. Delcher S, will be ridden by J. Grosjean. He did a good spring season, to disappoint in the GP Ciudad de Madrid. In his last start, he was third to Ayanz and Arnuero in the Memorial Duque de Toledo

Duke (GER, 2006) is a bay gelding [Second Set-Deborah(Law Society)], owned by Cuadra Cholaica, trained by J.L. Maroto and will be ridden by M. Borrego.

Entre Copas (GB, 2004), chestnut gelding [Sakhee-Priena(Priolo)] Owned by Cuadra África, trained by J. M. Osorio, will be ridden by J. Crocquevieille. Winner of the 2008 and 2009 editions of this race. He is having an outstanding year. He was fifth in the Memorial Duque de Toledo, his last outing.

Karluv Most (FR, 2006), bay colt [Della Francesca-La Vltava(Grand Lodge)]. Owned by Cuadra Cholaica, trained by J. L. Maroto, will be ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina. Winner of the Villamejor (St. Leger) in 2009, he won also the GP Ciudad de Madrid and the Memorial Duque de Toledo in 2010, although he was repeatedly beaten by Entre Copas this year.

Pazifiksturm (GER, 2007), ch. colt. [Samum-La Parabol(Trempolino)], owned by Cuadra Martul, trained by Ana Imaz, will be ridden by J. B. Hamel. Winner of the Villamejor and second to Bannaby in the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián in 2010, his performances this year have been disappointing so far.

Recent winners of the Gladiateur have been: Carmanor (2010), Entre Copas (2008 and 2009), Bannaby (2007) and Lourival


The other important race of the seven races of the meeting is the Premio Veil Picard, a 1,800 m race for 2 yo. The participants are: Callside (Pyrus), Gran Chipi (Green Tune), Arsalan (Halling), Cardolan (Azamour), >Fortun (Bachelor Duke), Giggolo Star (Dyhim Diamond), Infinity One (Green Tune) and Lucciole Lol (Sorcerous)

And this will be the last meeting in Madrid for this year. Racing will continue in Dos Hermanas (Seville) and Mijas.

Casaca was third in the Prix Fille de l'Air (Gr. 3)

Casaca (Medicean), the chestnut filly of Cuadra África trained by J.M. Osorio and ridden by J. Crocquevieille, was third in the Prix Fille de l'Air, a 2,100 m Group 3 race run in the Toulouse racetrack.

With the usual colors of Cuadra África (light and dark green stripes), she travelled around sixth position, to be somehow boxed at the beginning of the home stretch. However, when she found a gap, she finished very strongly.

Bellaside, the other Spanish trained filly of the field, was unplaced.

In the same meeting, Fearside was last in the Criterium de Languedoc, Señor Miranda was fourth and Flash McQueen (Dyhim Diamon) was second in a race for 2 yos.

Casaca, Bellaside, Matusalen to run Group races in France

Casaca (GB, 2006) [Medicean-Priena(Priolo)], a chestnut filly, owned by Cuadra África and trained by J.M. Osorio, has been entered in the Prix Fille de l'Air (Group III), a 2,100 m race for 3yo+ fillies in the Toulouse racecourse, next November 11th.

Casaca is arguably the best filly in Spain, since she has won both the Premio Kutxa in San Sebastián (summer) and the Premio Benítez de Lugo in Madrid (autumn). Bellaside (IRE, 2007) [La Vie dei Colori-Brockton Saga], owned by Cuadra Bolaños and trained by Enrique León, is also entered in the Prix Fille de l'Air. She won the Listed Pietro Bessero (1,600 m) in Milan this year. Bellaside is property of Cuadra Bolaños and is trained by Enrique León.

Matusalen has won his 4 starts, including the Gran Criterium, the most important race for 2 yo in Spain. Matusalen belongs to the first crop of Caradak. He is owned by Cuadra Aller and trained by M. Delcher S.

Also from the first crop of Caradak is Fearside, who will run in the Criterium de Languedoc, Toulouse, Nov. 11th.

Achtung wins the Premio Villamejor (St. Leger)

Achtung (SPA, 2008) [Sulamani-Aurea(Silvano)], a bay colt owned by Cuadra Enalto, trained by Roberto López and ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina, won today the last of the Spanish Classic races, the Premio Villamejor (2,800 m, 3 yo) (Spanish St. Leger) in the La Zarzuela racetrack over a soft going.

Casar (IRE, 2008) [Hurricane Run-Thoroughly(Woodman)], a ch. colt, Cuadra Quinto Real, trained by M. Delcher and ridden by J. Horcajada, was second by half a length, with Lionel Star (FR, 2008) [Silent Times-Lady Cree(Medicean)] third and Francesco Cara fourth.

Lionel Star, ridden by J. L. Martínez, was the front runner, followd by Labrit for most of the race. In the home stretch, Lionel Star retained strength to fight, beaten only by the closers Achtung and Casar.

Favourites As de Trébol, Bottega and Le Feu du Ciel won in Pineda

Le Feu du Ciel (FR, 2006), [Johan Quatz-Gialla] the chestnut gelding property of Cuadra Sayago, trained by G. Arizkorreta, ridden by V. Janacek, won the Premio Excelentísimo Ayuntamiento de Sevilla (2,400 m, 7,000 euros), the main race of yesterday meeting in the Pineda racetrack, Pineda, Seville, leaving far behind Seminole Cry, second, with Ilusionista third. Le Feu du Ciel has won the Grand Prix de Pompadour three times and was one of the favourites in the Mijas Cup this year.

As de Trébol (USA, 2006) [Tapit-Adelphi] won the Premio Coca Cola-GP de Velocidad (1,600 m). He is owned by Cuadra Chicago and trained by M. Delcher and was ridden by Diana López. Whistleinthewind was second by five lengths and Liniberto was third.

Diana López also rode Bottega (USA, 2007) [Mineshaft-Sun is Up], winner of the Premio Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla (1,750 m) for Cuadra Madroños and trained by M. Delcher, with Singapore Guy second and Alhaprince third.

Galego (SPA, 2009) [Wagon Master-Ma Marsellaise] won the 2 yo race and La Bailarina (SPA, 2008) [Doyen-Massina] won the 3yo race.

Races in Pineda (Seville) tomorrow

There will be a meeting in the Pineda racetrack (dirt) tomorrow Tuesday, November 1st, with 5 races.

The meeting will have as one of the main points of interest the presence of As de Trébol, who will run the GP de Velocidad (1,600 m), facing Camuray, Boreas (the half brother to Abdel), Flying Blue, Liniberto, Whistleinthewind, La Rubia, Davay, Perfectamente and Betty Dibel

There will also be a 1,750 m race for gentlemen riders (Premio Real Maestranza de Caballería de Sevilla), including as participants, among others Monteagudo Ebro and Bottega

The fifth race will be a 2,400 m race (GP Excelentísimo Ayuntamiento de Sevilla), with Le Feu du Ciel as favourite.

First product of Blue Ridge View, for sale at Osarus

Blue Ridge View (FR, 2004) [Lomitas-Ashby Gap(Caller ID)] won the GP Memorial Duque de Toledo (2,400 m, 3 yo+, autumn, weight for age, in 2008 Video) in her best performance in Spain, beating Synergy (afterwards, Group 3 winner in France), Newango (winner of the GP Nacional and Listed placed in France) and Jade (winner of the Memorial in 2006).

Habby Blue is a chestnut filly foal, the first foal of Blue Ridge View and from the first crop of the Jockey Club (Group 1) winner Le Havre who stands at the Haras la Cauviniere. Habby Blue will be presented for sale in the first day of the Osarus November Sale, November 2nd and 3rd, at the Hippodrome L'Isle Briand, Lion d'Angers, France. Habby Blue is consigned by Ilka Gansera-Leveque.

Abdel wins the Antonio Blasco in an impressive performance

The heavy favourite, Abdel (FR, 2008) [Dyhim Diamond-Leonor de Guzmán(Glauco)], the bay colt owned and trained by J.M. Osorio, duque de Alburquerque and ridden by Jeremy Crocquevieille, won today the Premio Antonio Blasco (1,400 m, 2yo+), leaving five lenghts behind Mil Azul (SPA, 2008) [Russian Blue-Cuittled(Charismatic)] second and Risby (SPA, 2008) [Big Shuffle-Lonicera(Charmer)] third by a head.

This is the fifth win in eight starts for Abdel, who totals 79,000 euros in prize money. Abdel has been third in the GP Nacional (2,200 m), won the prep race for 3yo for the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián, was second in the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián (2,400 m) and, running now in shorter distances, he has done two great performances, winning the GP Hispanidad (1,600 m, 3yo+, the most important mile in the autumn) and now this Premio Antonio Blasco (1,400 m) with a fantastic performance again.

Besides Abdel, Dyhim Diamond, had two winners today: Tagomago, winner of the first part of the Handicap and Diamant du Soleil (SPA, 2008), ch. colt, [Dyhim Diamond-Solina], who won his first race, the 7th of the meeting (Handicap Infanta Isabel).

In the first race of the program, for 2 yo, there was a 1-2 for Caradak, when Fearside beat El Crack. Both are owned by Cuadra Safsaf.

In the race for 2yo debutants, the winner was Stratus Canarias (IRE, 2009) a bay colt, [Soviet Star-Hekayaat(Sinndar)], owned by Cuadra Grupo Bolaños, trained by Enrique León and ridden by Alvaro Gómez, beating Vereda (Kheleyf)(half sister to Lorgan), Vallarta (Devil Moon) and Paniside (Panis).

Premio Antonio Blasco (1,400 m, 2yo+) Sunday 30th

The Premio Antonio Blasco is a 1,400 m race that represents the first important race for 2 yo+. It is named after the great owner-breeder Antonio Blasco Oller, one of the most important figures in racing in the twentieth century in Spain. He owned the Cuadra Rosales which means he was the owner of some of the best horses in the second half of the century, like Chacal, Teresa, Takala, My Mourne, Casualidad, Richal, Lorgot, Dual Sea, Barilone, Clamor and a very long etc.

He also had horses out of Spain, being the most prominent the Prix de L'Opera winner Dona Barod and Pharly, second to Blushing Groom in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains.

Matusalén wins the Gran Critérium

Matusalén (SPA, 2009) [Caradak-Bixaare(Xaar)], owned by Cuadra Aller, trained by M. Delcher S and ridden by Jorge Horcajada, won today the Gran Critérium (1,600 m, 2yo) in the La Zarzuela racetrack, with Nuredyn (FR, 2009) [Dyhim Diamond-Nurenieva(Enrique)] (Cuadra Zurraquín, tr. by M. Hernández, ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina) second, one and a half lengths behind and Plenipotenciario (IRE, 200) [Caradak-Poliaurea(Poliglote)] (Cuadra Ussía-Hinojosa, trained by J. L. de Salas, ridden by Ryan Moore) third another length behind. Gran Chipi was fourth.

Saphirside took the lead and maintained it until the beginning of the home stretch. Nuredyn launched his attack (with somewhat immature ways), but a more serious Matusalen catch him to win. Plenipotenciario came from behind to finish third.

Matusalén remains unbeaten in four starts, and his wins include the Criterium Nacional (San Sebastián, Spanish bred 2yos, the Premio Dehesa de Milagro (bonus race for the Milagro Sale) and this Gran Critérium, the top race for 2yo. His win represents the first win in the Gran Critérium for a Spanish bred since the reopening of La Zarzuela in 2005.

Caradak wins the most important race for 2yo with his first crop, scoring also the third place of Plenipotenciario.

Gran Critérium, 1,600 m, 2 yo, Sunday 23th in Madrid

One of the highlights of the autumn season in Madrid (La Zarzuela) is the Gran Criterium, a 1,600 m race for 2 yo, the most important race for two year olds, that will be run this next Sunday. The 2011 edition has the added interest of the presence of one of the leading jockeys in England, Ryan Moore, who will ride Plenipotenciario.

The partants this year, next Sunday are all colts:

Celtic Rock (GB, 2009) [Rock of Gibraltar-Luna Celtica], owned by Cuadra Habit, trained by J. C. Fernández, will be ridden by J. Crocquevieille. Second to Albret in the Criterium Internacional in San Sebastián.

Gran Chipi (FR, 2009) [Green Tune-Cerita], owned by Cuadra Popular, trained by G. Arizkorreta, will be ridden by J. L. Borrego. Gran Chipi is half sister to Abril (Anabaa), a very good filly (Dual Classic placed and winner of the Premio Kutxa)

There will be 5 races in the Mijas racecourse this Sunday.

In the first one, a 1,300 m race for Spanish breds, Rubens (SPA, 2005) , the bay colt [Fragrant Wells-Sodoma] returns to competition after more than a year of inactivity due to an injury. He has 11 starts, with seven wins and four placings and 89,000 euros in prize money. Rubens will face Corcubión (Kahswan), Katire (Green Tune), Ariza (Diktat), Banbú (Wagon Master) and Partovia (Baptize).

Silverside (USA, 2006), who won the Golden Peitsche (Gr. 2) some weeks ago, was last in the Qipco British Champion Sprint Stakes (Gr. 2) at Ascot last Saturday. The winner was Deacon Blues

Ryan Moore will ride Plenipotenciario (IRE, 2009) [Caradak-Poliaurea], owned by Cuadra Ussía-Hinojosa and trained by J. L. Salas in the Gran Critérium (1,600 m, 2 yo), to be run this next Sunday in the La Zarzuela racetrack. Plenipotenciario has won his only start.

Pazifiksturm (Samum), owned by Cuadra Martul and trained by Ana Imaz, was second in his last start, an E race over 2,500 m for 4 yo+.

Ayanz wins the Memorial Duque de Toledo

Ayanz (GB, 2008) [Tiger Hill-Got to go(Shareef Dancer)], trained by G. Arizkorreta and ridden by V. Janacek for Cuadra Quinto Real, won today the GP Memorial Duque de Toledo (2,400 m, 3yo+] at the La Zarzuela racetrack, beating Arnuero (GB, 2008) [Sakhee-Penang Pearl(Bering)] by a length, with Domeside (GB, 2006) [Domedriver-Buck's Fizz(Kris)] a head behind. Karluv Most, winner of the 2010 edition, was fourth.

The stable mate of Entre Copas, Porquenotecallas was the frontrunner, followed by Clunia, who replaced him in the far straight. In the home turn, Karluv Most, Señor Miranda and Entre Copas launched their attacks, but it was in the home straight when the first three in the wire came from behind.

Nekkar, a 2yo filly by Caradak, wins in the USA

Nekkar (FR, 2009), a bay filly by Caradak and Imperiossa(Imperial Ballet), won yesterday a 1,100 maiden race at the Calder racetrack (Florida), in her second start.

This is the fourth winner out of seven runners in the first crop of Caradak, the Gr. 1 winner who stands at the Dehesa Milagro and the first product of Caradak to win out of Spain. The other winners of Caradak are the unbeaten Matusalen and Fearside and Plenipotenciario.

Nekkar's dam, Imperiossa (IRE, 2004), won in her first start in Spain, to be unplaced in her second and last start (Premio Valderas - 1,000 Guineas) and is half sister to Afriketa, winner of the Premio Benítez de Lugo (the top race for fillies in the autumn).

Monte Napoleone, second in the Criterium de Bordeaux (Listed race)

Monte Napoleone (FR, 2009) [Fol Parade-Kyria(Grand Lodge)], the bay colt owned by Cuadra San Ignacio and trained by Roberto López was 2nd today in the Listed Criterium de Bordeaux, a 1,600 m race in the Bordeaux-Le Bouscat racecourse, beaten by the favourite Dear Lavinia (Grand Slam)

This was the fifth start for Monte Napoleone, who was third to Laura Moon and Galileus in his debut, won his next start and then was second to Vladimir (later placed in the Gr. 1 Prix Morny and exported to Hong Kong) beating Albret (who then won the Criterium Internacional) and second to the unbeaten Matusalen (Caradak) in the Premio Dehesa de Milagro.

Abdel wins the GP de la Hispanidad

Abdel (FR, 2008) [Dyhim Diamond-Leonor de Guzmán(Glauco)], bred, owned and trained by J.M. Osorio (Duque de Alburquerque), won last Sunday the GP de la Hispanidad, a 1,600 m race for 3yo+, weight for age, and one of the highlights of the Madrid Autumn season. He was ridden by Jeremy Crocquevieille. Abdel went second behind Tirión for most of the race, and he won easily by two and a half lengths. Ariete Arrollador (GB, 2007) [Kingsalsa-Proud Douna(Kaldoun)] was second, with Bellaside third and Weststow fourth.

This is the fourth win in seven starts for Abdel, who was second last time out in the GP Copa de Oro de San Sebastián (2,400 m) in the summer and third in the GP Nacional (2,200) in the spring. This is also the biggest win for stallion Dyhim Diamond since the wins of the French bred Bannaby.

Dyhim Diamond scored also in the Copa de Criadores for Spanish bred colts, when Nuredyn (FR-asim., 2009) [Dyhim Diamond-Nurenieva(Enrique)] beat Dakside (Caradak) by three quarters of a length. Nuredyn is owned and was bred by Cuadra Zurraquín, his trainer is Mariano Hernández and was ridden by J. Crocquevieille (leader of the jockey standings, who won three times this Sunday). Nuredyn's dam, Nurenieva won the Poule de Potrancas - 1000 Guineas, was fourth in the Beamonte (Oaks), second in the Memorial Duque de Toledo and in the Premio Kutxa and third in the Villamejor (St. Leger). New Parade (Fol Parade) tops the ACPSIE sale

There were 14 lots sold out of the 43 finally presented (52 were catalogued) in the ACPSIE yearling sale, in Madrid, Saturday 8th of October, with a total result of 102,500 euros, giving a mean price of lots sold of 7,321 euros. Six lots didn't reach the reserve price. The top price was paid by Cuadra El Negredo for the full sister to Festeiro, New Parade, a chestnut filly by Fol Parade and New Vert. The second highest price was for a bay colt [Fragrant Wells-Bricoleuse], half sister to the Stakes performer Bling, who went to Gonzalo Hernando Aboin for 13,000 euros.

Meanwhile, in the SBA part of the sale, the top lot was a bay filly [Whipper-Diner de Lune] sold in 28,000 euros to Safsaf-Los Toneles. There were 15 out of 24 lots sold in this part of the sale, with a total of 145,000 euros (mean of 9,666 euros for each yearling sold).

Aspasia de Mileto, fourth in the Listed Prix Charles Laffite

Aspasia de Mileto (GB, 2008) [Hurricane Run-Fabulous Speed], the bay filly winner of the Premio Valderas, was fourth yesterday in the Listed Prix Charles Laffite, a 2,000 m race for 3yo fillies, in the French racecourse of Fontainebleu. The race was won by Andromeda Galaxy, with Splendido second and Peinture Abstraite third.

Aspasia was ridden by T. Thulliez for trainer Carlos Laffon and owner Duque de Alburquerque. This is the third start in France for Aspasia, who was fifth in her first Listed race and 2nd in her previous start, the Prix Liancourt.

One of the highlights of the Madrid autumn season is this Sunday's GP de la Hispanidad, a 1,600 m race for 3yo+, weight for age.

Volapie (SPA, 2007), bay gelding [Multazem-Bassaver], owned by Cuadra Romana Alta, trained by M. J. Pérez, will be ridden by R. H. Huayas.

Abdel (SPA, 2008), a bay colt [Dyhim Diamond-Leonor de Guzmán], owned and trained by J. M. Osorio, Duque de Alburquerque, will be ridden by J. Crocquevieille. Has been running in 2200+ races, including his second place in the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián, now goes to the mile.

Bellaside (IRE, 2007), a bay filly [La Vie dei Colori-Brockton Saga], owned by Grupo Bolaños-Gran Canaria, E. León, will be ridden by J. L. Martínez. She was second to Volcánico in the Gobierno Vasco and then he won the Listed Premio Pietro Bessero in Milan. Was second in the 2010 edition.

Hands Up (FR, 2008), a bay colt [Panis-Bali Bloom], owned by Cuadra Nostrum, trained by J. L. Maroto, will be ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina.

Mil Azul (SPA, 2008) a bay colt [Russian Blue-Cuittled], owned by Yeguada Ordiñ-Oriya, trained by J. L. Salas, will be ridden by J. C. Cerqueira.

Tirión (USA, 2008), a bay colt [Royal Academy-Domenica's Dream], owned by Cuadra Chicago, trained by M. Delcher S, will be ridden by Jorge Horcajada.

Volcánico (IRE, 2008), a bay colt [Refuse to Bend-Zayana], owned by Cuadra Los Toneles, trained by F. Rodríguez, will be ridden by J. Grosjean. Champion 2yo colt in 2010, he has won the GP Claudio Carudel in the spring and the Gobierno Vasco in the summer.

The Gran Premio de la Hispanidad is the most important race over a mile in the Autumn season of Madrid. The last winners were Silverside (2010 and 2009), Shumookh (2008), Solita (2007), Trip to the Moon (2006) and Young Tiger (2005).

In 1993 and 1994, the race was won by Partipral (later Group 1 winner in Hong Kong). And the 1988 edition was won by Isabena, the grand dam of Entre Copas, Casaca and Vagabond Shoes

Valle wins the sprint in Mijas, S Grillo in Madrid

Valle (USA, 2008) [E Dubai-Azelna(Tropular)] won this Saturday the main race of the Mijas meeting, a 1,300 m race for 3 yo+. Valle, now owned by Cuadra Maidón, trained by M. Delcher S, was ridden by Jorge Horcajada, and beat Compton Park (GB, 2007) [Compton Place], with Camuray [Slipstream King] third.

Meanwhile, in the 2yo race, the winner was Pippa Snudge (USA, 2009) [Strategic Prince-River Grand(Grand Lodge)], beating Coco Palm (SPA, 2009] [Fol Parade-Chista(Green Tune)]

Other winners were Nazareno Hen (IRE, 2008) [Captain Rio-Mackem Beat], Iraitzoz (SPA, 2007) [Dyhim Diamond-Mar] and Zarievich Núñez (IRE, 2007) [Governor Brown-Creme Chartreuse]

In the Madrid meeting, the main race, a 1,100 m race sprint for 3yo+ was won by S Grillo (GB, 2008) [Val Royal-Santiago Blue(Relaunch)], a black colt owned by Cuadra Ussía-Figueroa and trained by G. Arizkorreta, who was ridden by Vaclav Janacek. He beat Golfo Pérsico (IRE, 2008) [Diamond Green-Bajan Belle(Efisio)], with Rayo Negro (IRE, 2008) [Shinko Forest-Chaste(Groom Dancer) third] and As de Trébol fourth.

S Grillo was a promising 2 yo, and comes from a great family, since his third dam is Sacahuista, the dam of stallions Hussonet and Ekraar

Eltso (Dyhim Diamond) injured

The big chestnut 3 yo colt Eltso (SPA, 2008) [Dyhim Diamond-Katherine(Don Roberto)], one of the best 3 yo of the year and who was entered in the upcoming GP Memorial Duque de Toledo (2,400 m, 3yo+) next 16 of October, has been injured in a tendon and may not run again.

Eltso is owned by Cuadra San Cristóbal and trained by Jesús López

With only 4 starts, Eltso won his debut and then was second to Festeiro in the GP Nacional and also in the Villapadierna (Derby) to Ayanz. After a summer rest, he was third last Sunday in the Premio Cadena Ser, prep race for the Memorial.

There will be three meetings this weekend in Spain, with races in Mijas Saturday 1st of October, Madrid next Sunday and the first meeting ever in the Nigrán beach, near Vigo, Galicia.

The five races of Mijas include a 1,300 m race for 2 yo that includes, among its 6 partants: Bentayga (IRE, 2009), a ch.geld. [Strategic Prince-Barbera(Night Shift)], winner in his only start, in Mijas. ACPSIE-SBA joint yearling sale in Madrid, October 8th 2011

The Spanish Breeders Association (website: ACPSIE and the company SBA-Sales (website: SBA-Sales will hold an joint auction in the La Zarzuela racetrack, Madrid, October 8th at 15,30. There are 52 lots from the ACPSIE and 38 lots from SBA Sales, totalling 90 lots catalogued.

Some lots from the ACPSIE part of the sale are:

Lot 3. N (SPA, 2010) a bay filly by Wagon Master and Femme Epanouie(Sillery). Femme Epanouie is the dam of Buxo (colt, by Kashwan), 2nd in the GP Nacional.

Lot 13. N (SPA, 2010) is a chestnut filly by Dyhim Diamond and Marianella(Grand Lodge). Marianella is the dam of Falaris (filly, 2003, by Humool), winner of the GP Nacional in 2006.

Irish Cliff (IRE) wins the Criterium de Potrancas, Arnuero wins the prep race for the Memorial

Irish Cliff (IRE, 2009), the bay filly property of Cuadra Chicago, trained by M. Delcher S. and ridden by Jorge Horcajada, won the Criterium de Potrancas (1,400 m, 2yo fillies) in the La Zarzuela racecourse, beating Laura Moon (FR, 2009) [Russian Blue-Partageuse(Green Tune)], by half a length after a long fight in the stretch, leaving far behind the third, Galaxy (SPA, 2009) [Verglas-Yafoul(Torrential)] third, with She Rules (FR, 2009) [Aussie Rules-Barannia(Barathea)] fourth.

Vagabond Shoes included in the Arqana Arc Sale

The chestnut colt Vagabond Shoes (GB, 2007) [Beat Hollow-Atiza(Singspiel)], recent winner of the Gr. 3 Prix Messidor (beating Biondetti and Polytechnicien), has been added, along with three other horses, to the Arqana Arc sale, to be held in St. Cloud in October 1st.

Vagabond Shoes was previously second in the Prix du Chemin de fer du Nord, beaten by Byword.

A half brother of Vagabond Shoes, by Tiger Hill, didn't reach his reserve price in the recent Dehesa de Milagro Sale and he also has a half sister 3 yo (by Noverre) named Noviza, unplaced in three starts to date.

A filly by Jacira for sale in Arqana and other connections to Spanish turf

The Arqana October yearling sale includes, with lot number 58, a yearling filly by Arch and Jacira [Sillery-Vol Sauvage(Always Fair)]. Jacira was one of the best fillies in Spain in the last decade, winning the Premio Kutxa and the Copa de Oro de San Sebastián (one of the only 4 fillies to win this race). She totalled 10 wins and 7 placings in Spain and France and was also second in the Premio Paolo Mezzanotte, (Gr. 3) in Italy.

His second dam is Teresa, one of the best fillies of the twentieth century in Spain, who won both Classics (Valderas and Beamonte), the Benítez de Lugo and was unbeaten in Spain. She also run in France, being third in the Prix Corrida (Gr. 3) and unplaced in the Arc won by Trempolino.

Lot 11, Satiny, a bay filly by Desert Style and Crusch Alva and Lot 576 a filly by One Cool Cat and Beltza, share, as 2nd dam, the mare Kalawelsh, (who died recently, dam of the Group performers Persian Ruler and Kashwan and also of the Spanish Oaks placed Robertville.

Casaca wins the Benítez de Lugo

Casaca (GB, 2006) [Medicean-Priena(Priolo)], the chestnut filly owned by Cuadra África, trained by J. M. Osorio and ridden by Jeremy Crocquevieille, won today the Premio Ricardo Ruiz Benítez de Lugo (2,200 m, 3yo+ fillies) at the La Zarzuela racetrack in Madrid. Narya (IRE, 2007) [Halling], prop. of Cuadra Miranda, trained by M. Delcher S and ridden by Jorge Horcajada was second, with Clunia (Silent Times) third and Tasha Linda (Where or When) fourth.

The race was commanded by Lisselan Beauty with Narya second until the end of the last turn in which Narya took the lead and entered the stretch along the rail. Clunia charged but couldn't surpass Narya. Casaca came from behind to beat both by one and a half lengths.

Here is the race: Premio Ricardo Ruiz Benítez de Lugo 2011. Casaca is a chestnut filly with white blaze and her jockey wears dark and light green vertical lines.

This is the fourth win in five starts this year for Casaca who has won both the main races for 3yo+ fillies in San Sebastián (Premio Kutxa) and Madrid (this Premio Benítez de Lugo).

And this 2011 is being a dream year for owner-breeder Cuadra África, trainer J.M. Osorio (Duque de Alburquerque), jockey Jeremy Crocquevieille .... and dam Priena (Priolo-Isabena), since the siblings Entre Copas (Sakhee) and Casaca (Medicean) have won Mijas Cup, GP de Madrid, Premio Corpa, GP de San Sebastián (Entre Copas) and the two main races for fillies (Kutxa and Benítez de Lugo).

Also in this meeting, in a 1,400 m race for debutant 2 y/os, the winner was Plenipotenciario (IRE, 2009) [Caradak-Poliaurea], owned by Cuadra Ussía-Figueroa, trained by J. L. De Salas and ridden by Marco Secci, with Saphirside (IRE, 2009) (Elusive City) second and Vraivita (SPA, 2009) [Fol Parade] third. Plenipotenciario is the third winner for Milagro's stallion Caradak, after Fearside and Matusalen (this last, unbeaten in three starts).

Premio Benítez de Lugo (2,200 3yo+ fillies) this Sunday in Madrid

Racing returns to Madrid after the summer season, and the first big race is the traditional Premio Ricardo Ruiz Benítez de Lugo, a 2,200 m race for 3 yo+ fillies, with a purse of 21,000 euros for the winner.

The race this year seems like an almost exact reedition of the recent Premio Kutxa, won by Casaca in San Sebastián.

Monyaar (FR, 2007), bay filly [Montjeu-Iktheyaar], owned by Cuadra Ussía-Figueroa, trained by G. Arizcorreta, ridden by M. Secci

A filly by Zamindar tops the Milagro yearling sale 2011

A bay filly by Zamindar and the Gr. 3 winner Kentucky Kaper (The Prime Minister9 was the highest price of the Dehesa de Milagro yearling sale 2011, held in Milagro, Navarra, last Saturday 10 of September. She was sold by 43,000 euros to trainer Francisco Rodríguez for Los Toneles stable.

Both next highest prices, 34,000 euros each, were paid by trainer Guillermo Arizkorreta acting for Cuadra Ussía Figueroa. One of them is a gray colt by Halling and Private Dancer and the other one is a bay colt by Sakhee and Abril (winner of the Premio Kutxa).

A bay filly also by Sakhee and Levantina was sold to B. H. Bloodstock in 26,000 euros. The half brother to Spanish Guineas winner Ariete arrollador, a bay colt by Caradak and Proud Douna realized 27,000 euros paid by Stamina agency. And the half sister to Clunia (best 2yo filly of 2010 and Spanish Oaks winner) went for 32,000 euros to trainer Francisco Rodríguez for cuadra Safsaf.

There was a highest bid of 16,000 euros for the half brother to Vagabond Shoes and also 30,000 euros offered for the first product of Ensis, but neither reached the reserve price.

In total, there were 93 catalogued products, 22 withdrawn (some might be presented in Madrid in October), 20 with no bids, 9 didn't make the reserve price and 42 sold, with a total volume of the sale of 662,000 euros.

Luis Maroto died

Former trainer Luis Maroto, one of the leading trainers of the Spanish turf in the second half of last century, and father of the also trainer J. L. Maroto died yesterday at 82 years of age.

Luis Maroto was leading trainer in 1983 and 1985 and second some other years and saddled a good number of winners of the Spanish classic races, like Koku and Orbital, winners of the Cimera (2,000 guineas) in 1972 and 1985, Herves, winner of the Valderas (1,000 guineas) in 1969, Zambia, winner of the Beamonte-Oaks in 1983, Pearl Island, winner of the Beamonte in 1986, Arameo, winner of the Spanish Derby in 1984.

Other great runners trained by Luis Maroto were Raiponce, Colorines, Coloso and Lorgot

His son Juan Luis Maroto resumed his training career in 2006 and is the trainer of Karluv Most, winner of the GP Ciudad de Madrid and the Memorial Duque de Toledo.

Bellaside (IRE) wins the Premio Pietro Bessero (Listed) in Milan

Bellaside, (IRE) [La Vie dei Colori-Brockton Saga] the 4 yo bay filly owned by Cuadra Grupo Bolaños Gran Canaria and trained by Enrique León, ridden by Fabio Branca, won this Sunday by a neck the Premio Pietro Bessero (Listed race) a 1,600 m race at the Milan racetrack. Although Bellaside has run in a come-from-behind style in Spain, she took the lead from the start and held off a late attack.

Bellaside was second to Silverside in the 2010 edition of the GP de la Hispanidad and was also second to Volcánico in the recent Premio Gobierno Vasco, the most important mile race in the San Sebastian season. She won the Premio Covarrubias this spring in Madrid.
