Clunia (IRE) wins the Premio Beamonte (Spanish Oaks)

Clunia, (IRE, 2008)[Silent Times-Doohulla(Stravinsky)], the Champion 2 y/o filly of 2010 in Spain, returned to her winning ways today in the Premio Beamonte (Spanish Oaks), over 2,200 m in the turf track of La Zarzuela, Madrid, after two disappointing races this year and challenging the doubts about her stamina on pedigree grounds.

Herri Irratia (SPA) was the front runner, first with a slow pace but increasingly fast. Clunia was second most of the race, with her jockey Borja Fayos launching her attack in the last turn. La Llanura, (CAN) one of the favourites, attacked Clunia in the stretch, along the rail, to finish third, because Azamor (SPA) did a strong late charge to secure the second place. Bucovina (SPA) was fourth.

This is the third Premio Beamonte in the last five years for jockey Borja Fayos, who also won with Golding Star in 2007 and Carlota in 2009.
