Tashqeel wins the Premio Juan Manuel Sánchez Romero

Tashqeel (GB, 2008), a bay colt [medicean-Ulfah(Danzig)] won today the Premio Juan Manuel Sánchez Romero (1,200 m, 4yo+, 6,000 euros for the winners), the fifth race of the meeting in the Mijas racetrack. Owned by Cuadra San Acadio and trained by O. Anaya, he was ridden by Ivan López (winner of three of the five races today). Sergei (ch. colt, IRE, 2008) [Gulch-Seasonal Style(Generous)], was second, with Compton Park (ch. colt. GB, 2007), [Compton Place-Corps de Ballet(Fasliyev)] third.

Other winners of the meeting were Vivanco (colt, SPA, 2008) [Wagon Master-On Not One(Numerous)], owned by Cuadra Cortiñal, trained by J. M. Borrego and ridden by J. Grosjean in the 2,100 m race for 4yo+ Spanish breds. Milagrés (Delfos) was second and Monteagudo Ebro (Statue of Liberty) was third.

Makalali (IRE, 2009), bay colt [Kodiac-Hawattef(Mujtahid)], owned by Cuadra Martel Sánchez, trained by Oscar Anaya and ridden by Ivan López won the 1,600 m race for 3yo, with a field of 4, beating Pippa Snudge (Strategic Prince).

Barking (IRE, 2008), bay colt [Bahri-Pivot d'Amour(Pivotal)], owned by BP San Mateo, trained by O. Anaya and ridden by I. López won the first part of the split handicap, Premio Mijas Comunicación (4yo+, 1,600 m) with Feitizo (Baptize) second and Arousa (Baptize) third. Video  Premio Mijas Comunicación 2012

Camuray wins the sprint at Dos Hermanas

Camuray (SPA, 2005), black colt [Slipstream King-Reina Blanca(Highest Honor)], owned by Yeguada Cortiñal, trained by Enrique León and ridden by J. L. Martínez, won the main race of the Sunday meeting at Dos Hermanas (Seville), a 1,000 m claiming race, beating Sergei (IRE, 2008) [Gulch-Seasonal Style(Generous)], with Carioka (SPA, 2008)(grey filly) [Devil Moon-Lady Woo(Woodman)] third.

Dime que Sí (IRE, 2009) bay filly [Shirocco-Sculpted(Orpen)] won the 1,500 m race for maiden 2yo. She is owned by Cuadra Di Benischi and trained by Barbara Valenti and was ridden by Oscar Ortiz de Urbina. She won by a length, with Esgues (SPA, 2009) ch. c. [Dyhim Diamond-Mar(Luth Dancer)] second and Indian Victory b. c. (SPA, 2009) [Sleeping Indian-Adventuress(Singspiel)]

Volcánico (IRE) wins the Premio Torre Arias

Volcánico (IRE) winner of the Gran Criterium last year, won today the Premio Torre Arias, a 1,400 m race for colts in La Zarzuela, traditional trial for the Premio Cimera (Spanish 2,000 Guineas), over a very heavy going. Barking was first for most of the way and stayed well advanced the home stretch, and Volcanico had to fight hard to beat Barking and resist the final charge of Cielo Canarias.

Cielo Canarias (IRE) [Exceed and Excel-Summer Dance(Sadler's Wells)] was second, with Sergei (IRE) [Gulch-Seasonal Style(Generous)] third and Barking (IRE) [Bahri-Pivot-d'Amour(Pivotal)] fourth.
Volcánico [Refuse to Bend-Zayana(Darshaan)]is owned by Cuadra Los Toneles and trained by Francisco Rodríguez and was ridden by Julien Grosjean.

Meanwhile, in the first race, a 1,800 m maiden race for colts, the winner was Arnuero (GB, 2008) [Sakhee-Penang Pearl(Bering)] half brother to none other than Harbinger, the highest rated horse in the world in 2010. It was the second start (after a second place last year) for this bay colt, owned by Cuadra Bering, trained by M. Delcher S. and ridden by Borja Fayos.
