Spring season in Madrid from this Sunday

The Hipódromo de La Zarzuela (La Zarzuela racetrack) begins its Spring season this Sunday March 13th.

La Zarzuela opened for the first time in 1941 and held races every year from 1941 to 1996, when it was closed. It reopened in 2005. La Zarzuela is located near the A-6 motorway, some 8 km Northwest from Madrid. It has unique grandstands with roofs by the great engineer Eduardo Torroja that are studied in many Architecture Schools.

La Zarzuela is home to the Classics: Premio Valderas (1,000 Guineas), Premio Cimera (2,000 Guineas), Premio Beamonte (Spanish Oaks), Premio Villapadierna (Spanish Derby). The Spring season also features the Gran Premio Ciudad de Madrid (2,500 m 3 y/o+) and the Gran Premio Claudio Carudel (1,600 m, 3 y/o+).
